About Picsel Photography Studio
Picsel Studio is a well equipped Photography Studio complete with white Cyclorama Wall [Cyc Wall/Infinity Curve] and ceiling mounted Pantograph lighting system. Picsel has a wide range of studio lights, modifiers, backdrops and everything that photographers need to create stunning images. Picsel photo studio is based in central Newport, just a short walk from the city centre.
Parking & Accessibility
There are plenty of free parking options around St Woolos Cathedral, which is opposite Picsel Studio. Parking is officially free for up to 2 hours.
Unfortunately the studio is not wheelchair accessible as we're on the first floor with no lift. However, Picsel studios have a portable studio solution and can bring lighting, backdrops etc to you. Get in touch with Picsel if you want us to come to you.
About Rhys
Picsel Studio is run by commercial photographer Rhys Webber - that's me, Shwmae! I'm shifting to first person here!
I grew up in Newport but went to London to study for my Photography degree. After graduating I started working commercially as a photographer, as a graphic designer and also as a teacher. For the past 20 years I've run both Webber Design Ltd (graphic/web design, branding) and Webber Photo for my commercial photography work. I am a fluent Cymraeg speaker.
Coming from a family of teachers it wasn't long before I started teaching Photography, digital Photography and graphic design software (Photoshop, Lightroom etc) to creatives from many of the UK's flagship media companies.
Webber Photo
Webber Photo is me as a commercial photographer. I specialise in Portrait Photography and Corporate Headshots, which is my passion, but also work in event photography and product photography. Over the years I've worked for too many clients to mention but these include Lloyds Bank, the People's Health Trust, Welsh Power, GD Environmental, Alzehimer's Society, University of Wales, the Bank of England and many more.
After having a home studio for the last ten years I decided it was time to invest in a better Photo Sudio, and Picsel was born. Big thanks to brother Gaw, who did the lion's share of the building work.
Personal Work: Welsh from Everywhere
In addition to my commercial work, I also exhibit as a photographer. For the past 10 years I've been working on a portraiture project called 'Welsh from Everywhere' which investigates the rich cultural diversity of Newport in the 21st century through photographic portraits. This work has been exhibited several times, and was chosen to feature in the Ffotogallery Wales Festival of Photography in 2021. Ffotogallery also commissioned me to create more work for the festival so I ended up with work in 2 separate galleries for the event.
I love this project as it allows me to meet so many diverse people from around the world who've made Newport their home. I've photographed people 'from' over 35 countries to date, but have no plans to stop yet.
